I gave my Galaxy S22 Ultra new life with Galaxy AI features here’s why!

AI Revolution in Hand: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is Now Smarter with the Latest Galaxy AI Feature Update!

Samsung has been putting a lot of emphasis on artificial intelligence, and recently, they rolled out the One UI 6.1 update for the older Galaxy S22 Ultra. My phone had been sitting in a cabinet for most of the past year, but with this new update, it’s like a whole new device, thanks to the enhanced Galaxy AI features

The One UI 6.1 update has been making its way to many older Samsung Galaxy S22 devices. After testing Galaxy AI features on my S23 Ultra, my perspective on AI is shifting. This update narrows the gap between the S22 Ultra and the newer S24 Ultra, questioning the need for the latest model. Regardless, S22 Ultra users who haven’t upgraded will appreciate this software. After testing the new AI features, here’s what I found:

Nearly all the same Galaxy AI features

Be amazed as we reveal how revolutionary Galaxy AI features transform the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Experience incredible photo quality, intuitive typing, and a phone that feels brand new.

In my Galaxy S24 Ultra review, I highlighted the major role Galaxy AI features played in its overall performance, especially given the telephoto camera downgrade. Notably, the device inherits all the familiar Galaxy AI capabilities from the S24 Ultra, including:

  • Web Translate: Translate entire web pages with ease. Just tap the Web Translate button in the Samsung browser, and the page will be translated into your chosen language.

The AI conundrum

This isn’t entirely new territory. Remember when Google launched the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro last fall? We all assumed those fancy AI features would be locked down to those high-end models. But lo and behold, some of them trickled down to the more affordable Pixel 8a.

Samsung is taking a similar approach. Initially, the Galaxy AI features were reserved for the entire Galaxy S24 lineup, all powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. But surprise, surprise! Samsung decided to share the AI love with the previous two flagship lineups, the S22 and S23.

Will Apple also follow suit?

I eagerly anticipate Apple’s announcement of their AI features, rumored to be unveiled at next week’s WWDC 2024 keynote. In the past, Apple has made a point of making new iOS features available to many different iPhone models, not just the latest ones.

I hope that iOS 18, along with its new AI capabilities, will be widely accessible to older iPhones. It would be quite unexpected if Apple chose to restrict these AI features to only their high-end devices, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, based on Apple’s track record, I don’t think they will go in that direction.

Historically, Apple has made an effort to make new iOS features available to all devices that are compatible with the new software. Therefore, it seems probable that even older iPhones like the iPhone XR will be able to take advantage of these new features.
