Conlon and three other men were railroaded by British authorities in the 1970s for an Irish Republican Army terrorist attack.
The story is based on the true events that transpired during that time period. In spite of the fact that they are innocent, Conlon and the other individuals are not only sentenced to prison but also made to sign confessions.
Conlon’s father, Patrick “Giuseppe” Conlon, who is played by Pete Postlethwaite, is finally incarcerated on fabricated charges as well. Within the confines of the prison, this results in the father and son developing an even stronger bond. Despite this, the faith that they would ever be able to receive justice is gradually dwindling as another year passes.
