At the Made on YouTube event in New York City on Wednesday, the company announced that YouTube content creators will soon have access to a variety of new AI-powered tools. These tools include the capability to produce a complete six-second YouTube Shorts video segment with a text prompt.
The new capability is the result of the integration of Google Deep Mind’s Veo video generation model into YouTube Shorts. Veo is designed to compete with a variety of cinematic themes and styles, including OpenAI’s Sora, Runway’s Gen-3 Alpha, Adobe’s Firefly, and Kuaishou Technology’s Kling. It is capable of producing six-second films at 1080p resolution.
Veo’s integration will enhance YouTube’s AI-powered “Dream Screen,” which was introduced in 2023 and allows content creators to generate backgrounds for their videos. Dream Screen will now enable users to input a text prompt, generate four image outputs, and subsequently animate one of the outputs using Veo. Google’s SynthID system will be used to watermark any content generated through this workflow; however, repeated investigations have demonstrated the ease with which these visual identifiers can be evaded.

The announcement of Veo was not the sole new feature at the event. Google is also developing digital “jewels” that viewers can send to live-streamers, similar to the “gifts” on TikTok. The “jewels” will be tested by Vertical Livestreams in the United States. Additionally, the organisation broadened its automated dubbing service to encompass French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and it made its Community hubs accessible to an increased number of channels.
Additionally, Google disclosed that YouTube Studio permits creators to employ artificial intelligence (AI) to generate video concepts. The Inspiration tab, which has been in beta testing, will automatically generate a title, avatar, and the first few lines of dialogue, in addition to suggesting the concept for what you should create. These new tools are expected to further reduce the barriers to entry for content creators on YouTube and enable the video platform to more effectively compete with platforms such as TikTok.
